2026 Dog Licenses Available December 18, 2025.

You must bring the rabies vaccination certificate to purchase a license.

The 2026 Oakland County Dog Licenses are available at the Township Treasurer’s Office.  Dogs are now required to be licensed at four (4) months of age. Verification of rabies vaccination and sterilization papers must presented at the time of purchase. You must renew licenses by April 30th. Beginning May 1st, licenses are considered delinquent and cost will increase with exceptions for newly acquired dogs or new residents to the County with a 30 day grace period.

2026 Dog tags go on sale December 18, 2025.  All dogs must be licensed by April 30th.  Oakland County Animal Control will be visiting door to door in various communities this year to monitor license compliance. 

Important Additional Information

You will need proof of a valid rabies vaccination to purchase the license. You will need proof of your dog being spayed/neutered if you wish to receive the lower fee. Dog licenses are required by the State of Michigan in accordance with Michigan Act 339 of 1919 (commonly known as the dog law). If your dog has already been previously registered, the county may send you a reminder post card regarding dog license renewal.
