Inspections and Procedures

Address must be posted.  Additional inspections or re-inspections may be required as determined by the Building Department.

Building inspections are performed on Monday through Thursday, typically after 1 pm.

Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing inspections are performed on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Please call 248.627.4916 to schedule or cancel an inspection no later than 7 AM of the day of inspection. 

Acceptable site access is required.

Building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits shall be issued to licensed contractors only.  Contractors must be currently registered with the township and must provide federal ID numbers, as required by state law.

Exception:  Building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits may be issued to homeowner’s as homeowner permits.  However, homeowners are responsible for all work completed under the respective permits.

Permits may be transferred on written request by property owners to new contractors or to the home/property owners, from the original permit holder of record.


Building Inspections

  • Footing, pads and/or trench and postholes
  • Property lines must be staked at time of footing inspections
  • Backfill
  • Sand compaction – garage floor
  • Pea stone for basement floor
  • Brick flashing, when applicable
  • Rough framing
  • Insulation
  • Final


Brick Inspection

Must show water resistant membrane, flashing, and weep holes with pea gravel between weather barrier and brick.


Fireplace Inspection

Wood burners:  A dual inspection is required by the Brandon Township Building and Fire Department.


Electric Inspection

Driveway Inspection

All new driveways are required to be inspected by Fire Department after rough building inspection
